Dwarf Fortress - Rockssears - Year 103

Previously on Rockssears Wake: Dwarf Fortress - Rockssears - Year 102

The following year is based on witness accounts, as I played it in front of friends and did not remember to take screenshots.

The exact months and seasons of when it all went down are lost to me but I'll try.

New rooms

First things first let's get the boring stuff out of the way.

Rockssears' dungeon is now complete along with bedrooms, dining halls and offices for the captain of the guard and dungeon master.

One of our three necromancer residents gets appointed as the dungeon master, Domas 'DwarvenOutlaw' Worldportals:

Moldster gets appointed as captain of the guard.

As Rockssears will get the opportunity to be promoted as a barony soon, The Geared Urn starts constructing rooms for the to-be baron on the west wing of the 5th floor:

Prisoners

Apparently Grasa was part of a plot to steal an artifact and served some time in the dungeon for that. She was acting under the orders of Kasmko Bulwarkmeadow, a human hunter from The Realm of Cooks.

Meanwhile Olvex sends DameDaNe, the original leader of The Geared Urn, to prison for violating his ludicrous production orders.

Shit Goes Down

First attack

During summer, Rockssears gets attacked by humans of unknown origin. The entrance hatches to the fortress were quickly locked by some of the human soldiers started climbing down to the fortress trough the waterfall. Of course, one of them got hit by the stream of the waterfall and fell to his death.

The metalsmiths quickly started forging equipment for The Sun Crusade out of the iron they had, while the humans were terrorizing the dwarves.

The Sun Crusade grabs whatever was ready to be used and starts attacking the humans. Their months of combat training seem to have come in handy as it was a pretty one sided battle. The humans who made it to the fortress trough the waterfall perished and the others outside fled.

During the battle a bolt was fired by a human towards one of the dwarves during a fight on the bridge on the 2nd floor. The dwarf jumped to dodge but ended up jumping over the wall on the bridge and falling to his death. It sort of went like this:

Anyway seems like the humans weren't very good combat-wise as there were 0 casualties other than psychological damage and some scars. Also, Olvex's front teeth got knocked out.

Rogan makes an artifact

During autumn, Rogan gets taken by a fey mood and starts crafting an artifact. Meanwhile, the dwarven merchants from the mountainhomes arrive and a diplomat offers to elevate someone from The Geared Urn to a baron. Naturally DameDaNe becomes the rightful baron of Rockssears, although this is very much still a mayor-controlled state. The diplomat leaves and we trade with the merchants and everything seems well.

However, as the merchants start leaving, it appears Rogan is missing materials for his creation. In a last attempt to supply them to him, The Sun Crusade attacks the merchants before they leave the trading room, an event which would be dubbed "The Massacre". The merchants' guards start fighting back and everyone joins in attacking them. A random child was spotted punching one of the merchants' bulls to death.

It sort of went like this:

Rogan did get the materials he needed, and constructed The Permanent Trumpets, a spiked earring. Naturally this instantly became a symbol of the mayor Olvex.

Hide the Bodies

The Massacre would most likely start a civil war with The Portal of Fins. Nevertheless the dwarves started hauling the bodies from the attack to the surface. However, right after The Massacre a giant cyclops attacks Rockssears. The entrance doors get locked quickly, but many of the dwarves were too busy hiding the bodies and hadn't enter yet.

It should be noted at this point that one of the dwarves that were still on the surface hauling bodies was Sarvesh 'Seler' Dwelledsmith, the third necromancer from The Geared Urn. As the cyclops got close to Seler, she started attacking using her necromancy by reviving the corpses of the merchants killed in The Massacre.

The Sun Crusade arrives in time and slays the cyclops and the hostile zombies summoned by Seler. One zombie ended up being a permanent resident of The Geared Urn however, the headless corpse of Lorbam 'Heav' Bannergrowled.

Heav did get hurt in the cyclops attack so obviously the next course of action is to treat him in the hospital where he spends the rest of the year spilling his guts out and bleeding all over the place.

It should be noted his missing head is not reflected in the in-game sprite
