Previously on Rockssears Wake: Dwarf Fortress - Rockssears - Year 101

102 starts rather peacefully for our dwarves. Starts? Started? I've changed tense at least 7 times in the last two blogs. High school English classes have been a failure.

Anyway, looks like El Ghost simply wants to visit our tarvern The Deep Fruit of Ages and socialize. He even befriends Niski.

The project of digging down to the magma pool continues smoothly, parts that our miners previously dug trough are sealed off with walls to prevent anything from entering the fortress.

An elven trade caravan arrives and The Geared Urn trades off what little crafts they have. Right afterwards, a military squad called The Sun Crusade gets formed with Olvex as its commander, finally putting his skills into good use. Despite his retirement he is willing to fight in the name of Edem and the sun. Dyuner also gets drafted to train with Olvex.

Their lack of good equipment makes them unfit to fight but they can still train to master their fighting skills.

By late spring Rockssears has a massive migrant wave of 30~ dwarves, one of which is a particularly knowledgeable dwarf called Rith 'Odaoda' Manororb, who has pursued engineering, mathematics, philosophy, geography and of course, necromancy:

She arrives with her husband Erush 'HELP' Mazewhips and his son.

Odaoda seems to be willing to teach her knowledge to the other residents of The Geared Urn, but perhaps the secrets of necromancy shouldn't be shared.

The migrant wave also brings us our new broker, replacing Olvex, Mestthos 'Goodman' Cattreaty:

It also means more dwarves getting drafted of course. HELP, and two other random arrivals immediately get drafted upon arrival.

Apparently Olvex's sun praising was so popular he got elected as mayor:

Rat update

I don't know what happened to the rats. There were two rats at some point. Now there is one rat, and he is not 'The Rat'

Magma pool construction

Finally by the end of summer, the miners reach the magma pool and begin building a small isolated room on top of it where the dwarves will be able to construct forges and smelters to smelt various metals and make weapons and armor.

It's important that there's no way for anything to be able to access the fortress from the caverns, as caverns are usually full of unfriendly creatures. Luckily this doesn't seem to be the case for Rockssears for now, but being close to the magma means being close to the underworld so yeah

During the construction of the magma pier, a single dwarf tried to attach a floor piece to the bridge and stepped on it, collapsing it instantly. He fell into the lava and turned into a giant puff of smoke.

Dumbasses

The Sun Crusade has its first real fight against two child snatchers,

They were quickly completely annihilated by Dynner and Olvex, but completely traumatized Rogan's daughter for life.

Apparently whoever sent them didn't get the memo, because 3 months later another 3 children snatchers invaded the fort and also got delt with pretty quickly.

More Undead Shenanigans

The Geared Urn has another big migrant wave during Autumn, in which several scholars join the group with 2 of them of course being necromancers.

By this point I'm completely convinced Rockssears is destined to have a library where all of the scholars will be able to teach and learn about the secrets of life and death.

Meanwhile Le Ghost returns to the fortress and by the time he's gone, the drum artificer Billzardbrash is suddenly missing. I sure wonder what happened

New rooms

The Brave was not relatively popular with all the new migrants, and The Musical Temple wasn't very musical without Billzardbrash, so it has been rebranded as The Church of Rain, a temple for Aval - a god of sky.

A hospital gets constructed behind The Sun Crusade Barracks, for any future OSHA violation accidents.

Odaoda, knowing everything about life and death, gets appointed as a chief medical dwarf. Maybe once her patients die, she could revive them!

The magma pier is now almost finished, a few stockpiles to make metalsmithing faster and a to-be dungeon have been carved out.

Also Olvex has a new mayor's office, bedroom and dining room on the east wing of the 4th floor, which he won't be using any time soon due to his constant training.
