What I've been up to

Hello. It's been a while since I last posted. Sorry about that. I wanted to talk a little bit about where I've been and what my future plans are since I'm going to try updating this more often. I recently got accepted into a college program to study electrical engineering. Friday was actually my 18th birthday so if anyone reads this and wants to wish me a happy birthday, you can. You might be wondering why I chose to study electrical engineering and I am going to explain why in my next paragraph.

For as long as I can remember, I've always been fascinated with technology and what we as a society can do to diminish our impact on the environment. I used to always look at the amount of e-waste that recycling facilities in the area had and wished that there was a way to reduce the amount of electronic components that are often discarded. What most ordinary people don't seem to understand is that in most scenarios, they can actually salvage components of the things they don't need or can't use anymore.

For example, you might have a computer with a bad motherboard but a good power supply and hard drive. Rather than taking the whole computer to an e-waste facility, you could just take the motherboard to an e-waste center and keep the rest of the parts for future use. The same thing can be done with electronic devices like smartphones and tablets. If we were to focus more on how we can salvage parts rather than just dumping everything at recycling centers, we could reduce the amount of waste that's bad for the environment and our human health.

Aside from environmental benefits, I also chose electrical engineering since I'm passionate about where the future of technology can lead us. I specifically care about this from the communication systems viewpoint since we use communication infrastructures on a daily basis. In fact, we're currently using one right now every time we read and post our blogs. One thing that I was very curious about was the introduction of 5g signals back when I was 11. One of the things I would love to do is look over how it is that satellite communications work since it's a new concept and up until recently, it was mostly seen as something normal people didn't really need. However, it would be cool to see how we can use it to increase the access to information in places where people can't easily access things like cell towers.

Overall, I am proud of the choices I've made over my future and feel like I will accomplish great things. My next goals will either be working at NASA or Samsung after I graduate but I feel like I could work at any job related to my field of study. See you all later.

Sincerely,

Emily Suzanne Hall

Congratulations with accomplishing your dreams! I know software engineering isn’t relevant to what you’re studying but if it ever becomes relevant, I’m always open to teaming up with you on future projects
