bell jar
i'm reading the bell jar by sylvia plath rn, and i really like it !! a classmate in my fashion class was talking abt doing an assignment about it & described it as pretty dark, so i felt like picking it up @ my local library. i'm on like chapter 8 rn
i can definitely sense the dark undertones, but honestly what exists of it manages to stay subtle. i think i like esther as a character a lot because i see a lot of attitudes & feelings that i think i'd have felt in that exact situation? like i'll catch her talmbout how she feels left behind seeing all these people in new york (the united nations conference thing? scene) with career paths and specific objectives they got, and how she feels behind it all, and like yes girl what the fuck could "shorthand" possibly mean!! noone ever force esther to learn shorthand!
oh yea esther (the main character)'s name isnt even mentioned until like chapter 3 which is a detail i found 2 be super confusing but also kinda funny
highkey tho, sylvia plath is eating rn as im reading this book bc its mentioning some gender-deconstruction ass shit that i wouldnt have ever seen before the 90s, and i feel like im getting a front row seat of the modern (pre post-modern yk? like 2nd wave ig) feminist movement & the seeds that were being planted to inspire it
also i made an origami heart dog-ear bookmark out of a post-it note its rly cute B^3
